ST. PAUL, Minn. Posted 3:32 p.m. February 26, 1998 -- The state won't be getting
involved in a public buyout of the Minnesota Twins anytime soon.
A House committee today rejected a plan to let the state loan money to a charitable
foundation to buy the team and then sell stock to the public.
Representative Phyllis Kahn says her community ownership plan would've kept the Twins
in Minnesota without requiring a new stadium right away.
But opponents said the state doesn't belong in the sports business.
Kahn says the defeat means community ownership is likely dead for the
session.
